Nevada City Uncorked

A Wine & Food Experience with an Historic Flavor

Rod Byers, Special to the Union

Taking place this Saturday, August 26, 2017, from 1 – 4 p.m. in Downtown Nevada City, Nevada City Uncorked is a celebration of wine and food with an historic flavor. The town’s Victorian elegance is the perfect backdrop to showcase Uncorked, a sip and stroll, walk-about-town event that includes 17 venues featuring wineries and food purveyors showcasing the agricultural bounty of our northern Sierra Foothills region, and the historic charm of Nevada City.

It’s All About the Wine
This year 17 wineries from the northern Sierra Foothills including Nevada, Placer and Butte Counties come together for Uncorked 2017. Sample over 60 different wines, produced from over 20 different varietals. Red Blends and Rosés are especially trendy this year but that doesn’t mean you won’t find all of your favorites as well. Chardonnay and Cabernet lead the pack but you will also find Barbera, Tempranillo, Sangiovese, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Marsanne, and more, including sparkling wine and port-style wine. Uncorked offers a great chance to catch up on your favorite northern Sierra Foothill wineries and discover some new ones.

It’s All About the Food
Nevada City Uncorked offers a smorgasbord of flavor. In addition to wine, each venue will offer food sampling. Restaurants, caterers and specialty shops as diverse as a chocolatier and a cheesemonger will offer an array of tasty bites and signature dishes. Enjoy perennial favorites like Friar Tucks Restaurant (ahi poke served on crispy wontons), Hoover’s at the National (prime rib sliders), Kane’s Restaurant (slow and low smoked pulled pork with mango salsa) or Diegos (Sandwichitos, house-made bread with grilled tri-tip, with chimichurri sauce). Sample gourmet caterers like BriarPatch (Bruschetta served on house-made baguettes, made with locally grown wheat and tomatoes, and garlic) or Conscious Catering (wild boar sliders with house-made boysenberry mustard).

It’s All About the Place
Nevada City is a tapestry of quaint, curious and unique spots to explore. Whether it is the unique view from the balcony of the National Hotel, a seat in the historic Nevada Theatre, or a hidden downtown patio, Nevada City Uncorked offers a timeless view of the single best example of Victorian Gold Rush architecture in California. Other venues include historic spots, inns, restaurants, art galleries, wineries, and retail spots.

It’s All About the Fun
Uncorked 2017 is offering a raffle with a chance to win some nifty Nevada City Vacation Package Prizes. This year there are four prizes including one night’s stay for two at The Two Room Inn and a private tour for up to six at Nevada City Winery. Tickets are available at the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce, and courtesy of the ever-charming Mall Queens, all afternoon during Uncorked. Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. Network Real Estate is the official sponsor and the drawing will be held at Network Real Estate at 436 Broad Street on Monday, August 28th, 2017.

The Fine Print
Uncorked is a collaboration between the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce and the Sierra Vintners Winery Association. Tickets are $35 in advance or $30 for Wine Club Members of participating wineries and $45 on the day of the event.
