CHP: Fire near Greenhorn Campground leads to evacuations (VIDEO)

UPDATE at 5:15 p.m.:

According to California Highway Patrol, forward progress of the fire has stopped and homes are secured. The CHP asks people keep clear of the area if possible due to mop up work.

UPDATE at 4:12 p.m.:

Cal Fire reports that firefighters have stopped forward progress of the Greenhorn blaze and placed hose around 90 percent of the fire.

Officials have received no reports of injuries or damaged structures caused by the six- to seven-acre blaze, said Mary Eldridge, public information officer with Cal Fire.

The cause of the blaze is unknown.

Instructions from Nevada County Sheriff’s Office:

Fire near Greenhorn Campground. Mandatory evacuations for Louis Road, Frederick Way and Marie Lane. Avoid the area.

UPDATE at 3:39 p.m.:

Dispatchers say the fire is moving west.

UPDATE  at 3:36 p.m.:

Highway 174 is open. Greenhorn Access Road is closed, per CHP. Authorities ask that people avoid the area.

Nevada County officials Thursday afternoon were evacuating residents in the area of Greenhorn Campground, the California Highway Patrol said.

Authorities say that a fire in the area of Greenhorn Access Road was reported at 2:51 p.m. It grew rapidly, leading to closures on parts of Highway 174 and Greenhorn Access Road.

Deputies around 3:15 p.m. began evacuating people, reports state.

According to a Union reporter at the scene, three structures are threatened, though good defensible space exists. The fire is about 15 acres.
