2 Colfax schools locked down after car vehicle suspect flees; suspect remains at large

A man wanted for vehicle theft remained at large Monday afternoon after his escape from authorities led to the lockdown of two Colfax schools, authorities said.

Kevin Harris, 33, ran from officers when spotted on Alpine Way — under a mile from both Colfax High and Elementary schools. His disappearance led both schools to lockdown for about 45 minutes as deputies cleared the campuses, authorities said.

Deputies scaled back their search that afternoon for Harris, who is wanted on a felony warrant for stealing a car, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said.

Harris, is described as having shoulder-length, dirty-blonde hair. He wore a camouflage jacket and shorts, and carried a black backpack, authorities said.

According to Placer authorities, the description is current. The photo provided by authorities is from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
