Titans win league tournament

The Nevada County Girls Softball Association had its 2007 league tournament Saturday and Sunday with six local teams.

The Titans, with a 13-0-1 regular season record, started the double-elimination tournament by defeating the Mustangs 5-2 in the opening round, then downed the Bombers twice, 9-5 and 7-6, to claim the championship.



The Titans players are Alixandra Alfke, Sage Bonelli, Amaal Bonislawski, Allie Cope, Mackenzie Hollister, Lydia Kyunendsen, Gressa Lee, Cassie Morgado, Hannah Mosman, Annie Perry, Maddie Phelps, Alyssa Reina, and Amanda Solomon.

Comets take third in Rookies Division

The Walton’s Grizzly Lodge Summer Camp Comets took third in the Rookies Division during this season’s action.

The team is made up of Ashley Albee, Kailynne Van Winkle, Natalie Lundmark, Juliana Browne, Ella Stein, Olivia Kohler, Grace Sypnicki, Hailey Patrick, Terra Arenchild, Sarah Hunter, Emma Zoellin, Indyia Vierra and Sarah Matheson.

Pitcher earns perfect game

Penn Valley Little League pitcher Dusty Zeisler faced the minimum 18 batters during a perfect game Tuesday for the Penn Valley Giants.

Zeisler not only didn’t allow any baserunners, but struck out 16 of the 18 batters he faced. The other two outs came by way of ground balls.

The Giants downed the Nevada City Indians 3-0. Zeisler threw just 68 pitches for the win.
