YOUTH GOLF: Nevada County Junior Tour wraps season, crowns champs
The Nevada County Junior Golf Tour came to a close Nov. 12 as dozens of young golfers battled it out at the Alta Sierra Country Club in the fourth and final tournament of the newly formed series.
Taking home the tour title in the girls 14-17 age group was Kalei Owen, who finished with 16.5 points overall with two first place finishes to go with a second and a third place finish. In the final tour event, Owen shot a 48 and tied with Haley McCormick for first place. McCormick finished second in the tour standings with 15.5 points. Raydean Aroz was third in the standings with 13 points.
Players in each division were awarded points based on their finish at each of the individual tour stops. A first place finish garnered five points, second place was worth four, third place tallied three points, fourth place was worth two and fifth place got one point.
In the boys 14-17 age group, Trevor Nielson took the top spot with 13 points. Nielson did not compete in the final tour event, but with two second place finishes and a first place finish at the first three events gave him enough points to take the title. Caden Harlabakis was second in the age group with nine total points. Ethan Flynn shot a 45 and won the final tour event.
Taking first place overall in the girls 11-13 age group was Theresa Shaw with 18 points. Shaw scored two second place finishes and two first place finishes, including the final tour event. Corina Shaw was second in her age group and also took second at the Alta Sierra event.
For the 11-13 boys, it was Andre Petersen edging Trevor Buti for the title. Buti won the final tour event, but Petersen won the first three to finish with 18 points and the title.
