The Nevada Union Jr. Miners program had a pretty good day Saturday as it won four out of five games against the Oakmont Jr. Vikings.

In the Midget Division, the Jr. Miners evened their season record at 2-2 with a 35-19 victory over the Jr. Vikings.

Zachary Fink led Nevada Union with a strong effort on both sides of the ball. On offense, Fink ran hard and broke several tackles on his way to 178 rush yards and four touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball he tallied nine tackles including a sack.

Junior Shima added 47 rushing yards and a touchdown on three carries, and Benji Taylor chipped in 35 rushing yards for the Jr. Miners.

Leading the NU defense was Duke Morales with 17 total tackles. Morales also scored a pair of two-point conversions.

Other Jr. Miners with strong showings were Trevor Neilson with a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and six tackles. Michael Hernandez added four tackles and pulled down an interception that ended Oakmont’s final drive.

Jr. Midgets: Nevada Union 34, Oakmont 0

In the Jr. Midget Division, the Jr. Miners were dominant and improved to 3-1 overall with a lopsided win over Oakmont.

The Jr. Miners were balanced in their attack, racing up 297 yards rushing and 123 passing. Their defense was staunch as well, allowing just 24 yards from scrimmage while shutting out the Jr. Vikings.

Aiden Wahl was impressive running the ball with 86 yards and three touchdowns on just four carries. Jaxon Horne added 46 yards rushing and a touchdown on three carries.

Jr. Miners quarterback J.T. Conway was effective from the pocket, completing 3-of-6 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown, a 68-yarder to A.J. Meyer. Meyer finished the game with two catches for 91 yards and the one touchdown. He was also impressive on the defensive side of the ball with six tackles and an interception.

In other games, the Jr. Miners (Mighty Mites) won 39-6. The Jr. Miners (Pee Wee) won by forfeit. And, the Jr. Miners (Jr. Pee Wee) lost.
