Ye Olde Bats take split in Oregon tourney

Special to The Union

Playing softball in Medford, Ore. for the Rogue Valley Championships, Judy Packham, Missy Patton and Geri Pape led their Nevada-based senior softball team, “Ye Olde Bats,” to the NCSSA Championship.

In the 55-65 age group, the Bats beat the California Rockers 12-10 and the Oregon Sleeperzz 20-15, before falling to the Lady Relics of Bend, Ore. by a 10-8 count.

Packham caught all five games and carried a .675 batting average for the tournament. Patton hit .750, drove in nine runs and made several nice catches in left field. Pape made several tough plays at third base while hitting .600 for the tourney.

All three women play in the Senior Softball, Co-ed Softball and Women’s Softball leagues in the Grass Valley and Penn Valley areas.

They also recently competed in the World Senior Games in St. George, Utah.
