Woodcreek downs Bear River water polo

Kacie Fredrickson scored all three of Bear River’s goals Thursday in the Bruin girls water polo team’s 7-3 loss to Woodcreek (Roseville).

Goalie Kaitlyn Spence had five saves, but is wasn’t enough. Bear River sinks to 1-5 on the season.

The JV team lost 7-3 . Sarah Newman accounted for all of the Bruins’ goals.

Renee Gohlikely had nine saves in goal. The Bruin junior varsity team is now 1-4.

Granite Bay 11, NU 5 (boys)

Granite Bay 11, NU 0 (girls)

The Nevada Union boys water polo team fell six points short of victory Wednesday when the Miners hosted Granite Bay.

Jon Dorfman had three goals to lead NU. Kurt Schimmel and Jordan Golnik also scored.

Nevada Union 32, Del Campo 14

Kelcey Wirick put in three touchdowns at the halfback position to lead the Nevada Union freshmen football team victory at Del Campo (Fair Oaks) Thursday.

The Miners kicked no extra points, but succeeded on one two-point conversion. Quarterback Billy Leister ran the ball in for two points.

Tucker Colomb scored one touchdown at fullback, as did John Bettencourt.

Colomb also led the game in tackles with seven.

NU (3-2) plays at St. Mary’s Thursday.


McClatchy 4, Nevada Union 0

After three straight Metro Conference wins, the Nevada Union boys soccer team fell short in a league matchup, 4-0 at home against McClatchy.

The Miners were outshot 14-10 in the game, and gave up three of the four goals in the first half.

NU’s Robbie Slaughter had five saves in the game.

NU drops to 10-5-1 overall, 3-4 league.

The JV team won, however, 1-0.

Bear River 3, Oakmont 0

Kevin Gardner pulled off a hat trick Thursday to lead the Bear River boys soccer team to shutout win at Oakmont

In the previous match between the two teams, Oakmont won 4-2.

Peter Moore played the entire game in goal for the Bruins and racked up nine saves.

According to head coach Dave Molina, one of the keys to winning was the midfielders’ performance, mainly Josh Orman and Luke LaRash.

“That’s what won the game,” Molina said.

After winning four in a row in the Pioneer Valley League, Bear River is sitting on a 4-2-1 PVL record, 6-4-1 overall.

The Bruins host Lincoln on Tuesday.


Bear River 285, Lincoln 306

Jessica Benzler received medalist honors Thursday with her round of 46 at par-35 Lake of the Pines Country Club to help the Bear River girls golf team get its third win of the season.

Also for Bear River, Jaclynn Peterson shot a 58, Karly Kephart a 59, Stephanie Ursiny shot 60, and Shasta Billings totaled 62.

Now 3-2 overall, Bear River travels to Auburn Valley Tuesday for a Pioneer Valley League meet.
