Bear River defeated Grass Valley No. 2 by a score of 3-2 in Tuesday’s opening round of the American Legion baseball tournament at Nevada Union High School.

In the seventh inning, Bear River’s Kyle Waldman got a hit to lead off the inning and went to second on an error. With one out, and runners on first and second, Austin French hit a line drive to center field to knock in the winning run with a walk off single.

Vince Viola threw a complete game for the Bruins, allowing one earned run. French led the Bruin offense with three hits and a walk. Bryan Sibis, Jordan Beskeen and Drew Loftus each also recorded hits for Bear River.

Bear River will face Roseville in the 10 a.m. game today at Nevada Union.
