Top-ranked Falcons move on to next round

After dropping game one 26-24 to Central Valley Christian League foe Victory Christian Thursday night, Forest Lake Christian regrouped to run off three straight wins to advance to the Division V volleyball section semifinals.

The Falcons (17-7) downed the rival Vikings for the fourth time this season, with the lastest ending in a 24-26, 25-11, 25-17, 25-14 victory.

“We were ahead 24-17 and they just ran off nine unanswered points,” FLC coach Travis Smith said of Thursday’s game one. “We stopped playing.

“I just said to them ‘You’ve just got to play Forest Lake volleyball’ and they know exactly what that is. And it was never a contest again. We took care of business after that.”

Bethany Huusfeldt and Rebekah Koopmans led the way up front for the Falcons. Huusfeldt had 11 kills and four blocks, while Koopmans had 10 kills – on a perfect hitting performance – to go along with eight blocks.

“Bekah had some huge blocks, some big momentum-turners,” said Smith. “When she came on the court she brought some intensity with her.”

Kelsey Andersson had seven kills, while Torrey Haddad and Kim D’Antonio totaled six and five kills, respectively. D’Antonio finished with 16 assists and Haddad had 15 assists.

Teresa Reed had four kills and two blocks for the Falcons.

FLC will face the winner of Thursday’s quarterfinal match between No. 5 Stone Ridge Christian and 13th-seeded Ripon Christian. As the No. 1 seed, the Falcons will host the semifinal match, which serves into play at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
