Tipton, Gemignani take top honors at Men’s Invite

Nevada County Country Club member John Tipton and Alta Sierra Country Club’s John Gemignani combined for a two-day total of 186 to win the 2002 Nevada County Country Club Men’s Invitational tournament Saturday.

The tournament, in its tenth consecutive year, features a club member paired with an invited player for two days of golf. The first day is best ball scoring, with the final day using combined net scoring.

Twenty teams competed in the golf tournament. The tournament began Friday and ended Saturday afternoon.

“After Day 1, the competition was very, very close,” Nevada County Country Club pro Jeff Fish said. “Nobody was out of contention, and only 10 strokes separated them, top to bottom.”

Club member Ken Hiebert and Frank Brunelli from Reno finished second. Bob Nettart and Alta Sierra’s Rich Norris finished third with a score of 188. Joe Tappero and Romie Otremba from Rancho Mirage placed fourth, due in part to Otremba’s 69 carded Saturday.

Club member Bill Simon and Alta Sierra’s Dick Nannini placed fifth with a 189.
