Tehama’s Leibovich wins NorCal PGA-CPC crown

Rick Leibovich of Tehama Golf Club (Carmel) eagled the par-5 18th hole at Winchester Country Club to fire a 7-under par 65 for a two-round total of 74-65 -139 claiming title to the 2004 Northern California Professional Golfers Association – Club Professional Championship earlier this week.

As a former NCPGA-CPC Champion, Leibovich knew he could win but he needed to shoot low to pass the leaders in this strong field of PGA professionals. While he was pleased with his first round score of 74, his putter hadn’t worked that well for him. Day two was a different story.

He started out with a solid birdie putt on the first hole, sank a par-saving putt on hole No. 2, and holed a 20-footer on No. 4 for birdie. He continued to make critical putts throughout his round, closing with the long eagle putt on eighteen.

“I feel blessed, and plan to enjoy this win.” said Leibovich.

Leibovich receives an exemption into the 2004 Reno-Tahoe Open to be held August 19-22, 2004 and the 2005 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

The field was also qualifying for the PGA Western Club Professional Championship, with the low fifteen (15) competitors advancing to the Western Regional CPC on October 14-17 at Diablo Grande Resort in Patterson.
