Sumner takes 4th at nationals

Will Sumner placed fourth at the USA Freestyle Nationals last weekend in wrestling, which was held in Orem, Utah, July 2nd through July 5th.

The top eight medalist from each respective weight class earned All-American status receiving a plaque and National medal. Sumner, wrestling in the 11-12-year old 95-pound division, is the sixth All American that the Nevada Union / Gold Mine Wrestling Club has produced.

Other All Americans from the Grass Valley club include NU and Goldmine head wrestling Coach Paul Gross (greco), Ty Wilcox (freestyle), Wade Sauer (high school and college), Luke Manuel (high school and freestyle), and Drew Hoskins (freestyle).

Sumner won five out of his seven matches in order to finish fourth best in the US. All the competitors qualified for the nationals by placing at their individual state championships.

Sumner’s division included the state champions from New York, Florida, along with Midwest and Western state champions.
