Gold Country Senior Softball Association showcases All-Stars of all ages

The best ballers the Gold Country Senior Softball Association has to offer put their skills on display for the league’s annual All-Star games held Thursday at Western Gateway Park in Penn Valley.

“It’s just a fun thing,” said Tom Paone, who coached one all-star game, played in another and is a GCSSA board member. “It’s all about teamwork and getting everybody out here having fun.”

All-Stars were chosen from teams in the GCSSA’s weekday and weekend leagues. Thursday’s slate of games featured All-Star contests across three different age groups: 70-plus, 60-plus and 50-plus. All-Stars were chosen based on ballots filled out by current players.

The 70-plus All-Stars got the day started with the Blue Team topping the Red Team, 10-5.

In the 60-plus All-Star game it was once again the Blue Team knocking off the Red Team, this time by a score of 12-7.

In the day’s finale, the Blue Team once again came away victorious, besting the Red Team, 18-12, in the 50-plus All-Star Game.

The All-Star games are a week-long respite from the GCSSA regular season which began in April and runs through September.
