Downtown Reno has been chosen by the American Motorcyclist Association as the site for Round 5 of the AMA Supermoto Championships on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Supermoto is a hybrid of motorcycle racing disciplines combining high-flying acrobatics of Supercross, the knee-scraping lean angles of road racing and the broad sliding of flat track.

The Reno Supermoto Classic is expected to draw big names such as Supercross and Motocross champ – and AMA Pro Athlete of the Year – Doug Henry, X-Games and Gravity Games freestyle gold medalist Travis Pastrana, and Supercross and Motocross champ Jeff Ward.

Friendship Club set for Family Fun

49er Family Fun Park in Grass Valley will turn its grounds over to The Friendship 100 on Sept. 20, for an afternoon and evening of adult fun at a kids’ park.

The Friendship Club will host the event, which will include a catered banquet, an Indy 500-style car race and a miniature golf tournament. Drivers and golfers compete for prizes and grand-prize winners in all categories take home a personalized, engraved trophy.

To participate in the Friendship 100, sign up as a driver and recruit sponsors ($1,000 minimum donation), or as golfer ($400 per four-member team).

All proceeds go to the Friendship Club, a 150-volunteer strong program working with at-risk girls to teach them social skills and job skills.

For more information, please call Sontine Kalba at the Friendship Club office (265-4311).
