DiMarco, Riley get on team; Sutton’s choices next

MILWAUKEE – Hal Sutton had a good idea what kind of U.S. team he would take to the Ryder Cup. All that changed in the final round of the PGA Championship.

Chris DiMarco, coming off a 15-bogey weekend in the International that raised more questions about whether he can finish strong, shot the only round under par among the last nine groups Sunday at Whistling Straits and lost in a three-way playoff, giving him enough points to put him on his first team.

Chris Riley, without a top-10 finish since he lost in a playoff at Torrey Pines six months ago, came within a 4-foot par putt of getting into the playoff Sunday. He still earned enough points with his tie for fourth in the PGA to wind up 10th in the standings, giving Sutton another Ryder Cup rookie.

Sutton was to fill out his 12-man team Monday morning by announcing his two captain’s picks.
