Bear River’s Myles Anderson was awarded Pioneer Valley League MVP honors earlier this week, along with being named to the first-team all-league along with two other Bruins.

Denny Wibbenhorst and Britton Barber were both named first-team, while teammates Matt Hilton and Eric Tomczak earned honorable mentions.

NU baseball duo selected to All-Star team

Jarad Van Matre and Jason Roenicke were both selected to the North Optimist All-Star Team earlier this week.

The Metro Conference all-league team was also announced, with Van Matre and Roenicke, both seniors, represented on the first team, accompanied by Miner classmate Curtis Campbell.

On the all-league second team, juniors Brian Jordan and Dan Rackley were both selected, as well as senior Chad Garvey.

Fairgrounds site of big outdoors show

The Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley will be the site of this weekend’s Sierra Foothills RV, Boat & Recreation Show.

Produced by Grass Valley-based SportsLink Productions, the show will feature more than 40 exhibitors displaying a selection of RV sales & rentals, motorhomes, fifth wheels, campers, toy haulers, family and fishing boats, watersports, kayaking, motorcycles, travel, camping, bicycling, golf and more.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5, with children under 12 free. For directions, click onto

Ready for the 12-Hour Spin?

Courthouse Athletic Club will be the site of the 12-Hour Spin, a noon to midnight spinning session that will raise funds for at-risk youth through the Christian Encounter Ministries.

The event begins at noon Saturday, June 19 and concludes at midnight. Ride alone or as a team, with a maximum number of riders per bike being 12. Minimum donation per bike is $150.

Baseball author to speak in Grass Valley

Kevin Nelson, author of “The Golden Game: The Story of California Baseball”, will be speaking at the Book Seller in Grass Valley Saturday, June 26 at 1 p.m.

Nelson, a lifelong baseball fan and Californian, will share readings from his book, which will be available for signing.
