Earl Cross of Grass Valley, one of 32 golfers competing in match play at the California State Amateur Championship at Pebble Beach, was eliminated from competition Wednesday.

Cross, an Alta Sierra Country Club member, fell to Darren Slackman of Indio, 3 and 2 – meaning he trailed by three holes with two holes remaining.

Competition continues today with the round of 16 match play. Quarterfinals and semifinals will be played Friday with the 36-hole final slated for Saturday.
