The Motherlode 2006 Pro Tournament will be hosted today and Sunday by the Skycatz Disc Golf Club.

Competition in the Professional Disc Golf Association event begins today at Western Gateway Park in Penn Valley and concludes Sunday at Condon Park in Grass Valley. The tee-off today will take place immediately after the 9:15 a.m. players meeting. The players meeting on Sunday is set for a 9 a.m. start.

NU boys soccer dates of note

Voluntary summer practices for Nevada Union soccer players begins in mid-June with practices scheduled every Monday and Wednesday starting June 19 and lasting until July 19 at Ready Springs School.

Freshman and sophomores are scheduled to play on those days from 5-6:30 p.m. with juniors and seniors hitting the field from 6:30-8 p.m. on the same days.

For those players needing physicals, Sierra Care Physicals are being offered from 6-7:30 p.m. June 13 at 140 Litton Drive, Suite 100 for $15 with checks made payable to Nevada Union High School.

Try-outs begin at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14 at the Sierra College Fields. All paperwork must be turned in by Friday, Aug. 11. Players must also have 2.0 grade point averages with no consecutive F’s or two F’s in one quarter.

College plans summer league

This summer the Yuba College Baseball program is offering a summer league for all area high school baseball players. The five-week instructional league will include 15-20 games, shirts and hats and direct coaching from Yuba College coaches and former professional baseball players.

Specific game/practice times will be provided the first day of camp at 5 p.m. June 19 at the Yuba College baseball field. No instruction will be given during the week of July 4, with camp lasting until July 30.

High schoolers ages 14-18 are elgible with the cost set at $300 per camper.

NU freshman football meeting Monday

There is a mandatory meeting to sign up for Nevada Union freshman football team for the fall of 2006 at 7 p.m. Monday in Baggett Theater at Nevada Union High School.

All interested student athletes should attend with at least one parent. Information will be provided concerning fees, summer camps and all upcoming dates.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. will be a sign-up in the lobby of the theater for names, address and basic information.
