Daniel Rackley struck out 10 batters in three innings, but Grass Valley’s Post 130 American Legion baseball team couldn’t hold onto an early lead as Auburn came back for a 12-2 win over the hosts at Nevada Union High School Tuesday.

Rackley totaled 10 strikeouts in three innings, due to one of his victims reaching first base after the Grass Valley catcher dropped the third strike. Cody Godfrey and Nick Graning came on in relief, throwing one and two innings, respectively.

“A lot of the runs they got were unearned,” said Post 130 coach Dan Rackley. “Our hitting wasn’t there and our defense wasn’t there. We had played pretty well up until (Tuesday).”

Godfrey got Grass Valley on the board in the first inning, smashing a solo home run. Justin Demé added a double for Post 130, which fell to 8-12 on the season with the defeat.

The two teams return to NUHS Thursday, though Auburn will be the home team as the game was moved to Grass Valley due to the Junior Little League All Star Tournament being held in Auburn.
