Local gymnasts qualify for state meet

The Rising Starz Gymnastics Academy qualified yet more boys to the State Gymnastics Meet thanks to a strong showing at the Zone Championship Gymnastics Meet in Chico Saturday.

RSGA, whose Addy Gemignani, Daniel Herron, Seth Nix, Michael Tuttle and Ben Granholm already earned berths into the state’s Class 4 championships, saw nine athletes from three divisions also make the cut.



The Class 4 and 5 championships will be held in Petaluma March 13 and 14. Class 6 and 7 will compete in Fremont March 20 and 21.

Zach Malech led the way in Class 7 with four first-place finishes, including the all-around title with a score of 54.350.




August Gonet, who won both the vault (9.200) and high bar (9.400), took second in the all-around at 54.200. Mason Salcedo (50.150) was fifth overall.

In Class 6, Troy Gomes won the pommel horse (8.200) and took second in the all-around (49.100).

Cody Avery took the high bar (9.000) and took second in five other Class 5 competitions, including the all-around (52.750).

Chase Osmond, who took second in both the vault (9.500) and parallel bars (8.200), was sixth in the all-around (48.600). Cody Haynes was eighth overall with a combined score of 43.000.

Brandon Trauner rounded out RSGA’s state qualifiers with a ninth place finish in the all-around (42.800).

Ryan Shoop, who took fourth on both the parallel bars (9.100) and rings (9.100), Roman Seghezzi and Christian Grapel also competed for RSGA in Chico.
