Showcasing their skills
The California Junior Tour opens its fourth fall-winter season over the Labor Day weekend, with a 36-hole event at Tilden Park Golf course, Berkeley.
It’s the first of 20 nationally-ranked tournaments throughout California, in a season extending through April 2005. There will be additional Northern California stops at Petaluma, San Ramon and San Jose, plus two in Sacramento.
The Tour is open to boys and girls ages 12 through 18.
Each Tour season is divided into a Fall Series and a Winter Series with a Championship Tournament at the end of each series. In December, the 2004 Fall Championship will be contested at Carlsbad’s La Costa Resort and Spa, the site of the PGA TOUR’s Accenture Match Play Championship and “Golf’s Longest Mile.”
With tournament participants last season coming from 110 cities throughout California, plus four other states and five foreign countries, the California Junior Tour has quickly established itself as California’s premier fall-winter junior golf tour.
“We book quality golf courses and work hard at creating a tournament atmosphere at each event,” said Johnny B. Gonzales, PGA, Tour Director and Director of Golf Operations at San Diego’s Singing Hills Resort at Sycuan. “The players always know they are competing for spots in the Championship Tournament.”
