Shaved 10 strokes in a week

My golf game seems to be coming together.

Sure I had five penalty strokes (one of which came when I accidentally hit the ball during a practice swing) but I finished up at an even 100.

That’s 10 strokes better than last week (and 16 strokes better than the 116 shot in Week 3).

It’s my lowest score ever. The ball just seemed to find the cup. On the 14th, I hit a chip shot about 65 feet from the green with a 7 iron. The ball rolled up on the green, hit the flag pole and fell into the cup for par.

What a day.

My lesson a few days ago with Carlis Gilbert (assistant pro at Lake Wildwood) concentrated more on the full swing than the short game as I originally planned.

It sure paid off today. I was having trouble on the down swing in rolling my wrists, following through and ending up on balance.

Carlis worked with me until I was able to do it a few times. Now it’s up to me to practice it. I still can’t do it every time, especially off the tee. For some reason I find it easier to do with the irons on the fairway.

Steve Madden’s right. As my fitness level improves, the lessons and learning process becomes easier and more productive.

I’m looking forward to playing a few holes with Steve later this week. He can better evaluate my progress by seeing me in action.
