Shannon Lingo was out front for the Nevada Union girls varsity cross country team at the Mariner Invitational in Hayward, Calif. Oct. 19.

The sophomore, who helped lead the Lady Miners’ frosh/soph cross country squad to last season’s Sac-Joaquin Section title, posted a 12th best time of 21 minutes, six seconds over the 3.1 mile course to pace the Blue and Gold to a fifth place finish.

“She struggled a little bit at the beginning of the year, but she found her (stride) and now’s she’s taken off,” NU assistant cross country coach Sara Freitas said. “She’s always had the talent and running skills, and now it’s all coming together for her.”
