RUNNING: Run for the Community marks 3rd stop on Gold Country Grand Prix

The Run for the Community 5K/10K marked the third race of the Gold Country Grand Prix and brought out more than 160 runners and walkers to Twin Cities Church in Grass Valley May 14.

Taking home first place in the men’s 5K was Parker Scanlon with a time of 18 minutes, 11 seconds. In the women’s 5K, Marley Mueller placed first with a time of 22:33.

In the women’s 10K race, Melanie Marsico was the fastest with a mark of 49:30. It was Bjorn Jones taking first place in the men’s 10K with a time of 40:06.



Age group (AG) winners in the men’s 10K were Raymond Wright (57:21) in the 70-79 AG, Kitt Flynn (44:25) in the 60-69 AG, Rob Taylor (42:20) in the 50-59 AG, Jones in the 40-49 AG, Zack LaFerriere (44:10) in the 30-39 AG and Shane Green (47:56) in the 19-29 AG.

Wright, Taylor and LaFerriere all lead their respective age groups in the Gold Country Grand Prix standings.




In the women’s 10K, AG winners were Carole Browning (1:22:40) in the 70-79 AG, Karen Henderson (56:07) in the 60-69 AG, Karen Wallack-Eisen (1:11:19) in the 50-59 AG, Sandy Roberts (53:47) in the 40-49 AG, Melanie Marsico (49:30) in the 30-39 AG, and Amanda King (1:07:11) in the 19-29 AG.

Browning, Marsico and King all lead or are tied for the lead in their respective age groups in the Gold Country Grand Prix standings.

In the women’s 5K, AG winners were Lynne Hurrell (32:02) in the 80-99 AG, Anne Green (36:01) in the 70-99 AG, Sue Madigan (24:05) in the 60-69 AG, Holly LaChappell (26:42) in the 50-59 AG, Mueller in the 40-49 AG, Vanessa Hale (26:16) in the 30-39 AG, Kristina Cena (23:59) in the 19-29 AG, Christy Paddock (28:02) in the 15-18 AG, Gabrielle McMullan (26:56) in the 11-14 AG, and Megan Hundemer (26:12) in the 10-and-under AG.

Hundemer, McMullan, Mueller, Green, Hurrell and Madigan all lead or are tied for the lead in their respective age groups in the Gold Country Grand Prix standings.

Age group winners in the men’s 5K were Ronald Gross (28:37) in the 70-79 AG, William Madigan (23:36) in the 60-69 AG, Philip Desjardins (21:05) in the 50-59 AG, Sergio Higareda (18:23) in the 40-49 AG, Steven Conrad (21:38) in the 30-39 AG, Scanlon in the 19-29 AG, Derek Sands (21:39) in the 15-18 AG, Antonio Valenti (20:45) in the 11-14 AG, and Ethan Romeo (22:42) in the 10-and-under AG.

Higareda, Scanlon, Valenti and Romeo all lead their respective age groups in the Gold Country Grand Prix standings.

The Community Run 5K/10K was hosted by Twin Cities Church and raised funds for at-risk youth, single moms and the elderly.

The Gold Country Grand prix will take the month of June off before returning for the Freedom 5K set for July 4 in Grass Valley.
