Bear River’s Lady Bruins didn’t exactly shoot out the lights Friday night, but they did turn up enough defensive pressure to put visiting Mesa Verde in a 15-point, first-half hole.

The Lady Bruins allowed just two points in the opening quarter, took a 26-11 lead at the half and moved to 4-0 in the Pioneer Valley League with a 59-35 win.

“We came out pretty intense,” said Lady Bruin head coach Duwaine Ganskie. “Their two free throws were it in the first quarter and they only had one field goal in the first half. The kids came out fired up and played good team defense.”

On the offensive end, Meaghan Noud led the way with 19 points. Cassie Smith and Nicole Scott each scored 11 points, while Smith had four assists and Scott grabbed eight rebounds.

Bear River (14-3 overall, 4-0 PVL) is idle until Friday, when the Lady Bruins travel to Colfax.
