Rotary Club of Nevada County South Golf Classic fundraiser set for Aug. 18

The Rotary Club of Nevada County South will hold its sixth annual Golf Classic fundraiser on Monday, Aug. 18 at Alta Sierra Country Club.

Billed as “the most fun you can have with your knickers on,” participants are encouraged to wear period golf attire from the 1920s and ’30s. Last year, a large percentage of golfers wore knickers and plus-fours, with a number of women joining the fun wearing skirts and bonnets, while twirling their parasols. Early indications are that this year a majority of golfers will don period garb.

This year, the Meyers Investment Group of Wachovia Securities has agreed to be the presenting sponsor for the tournament.

The event begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. After the tournament, an awards banquet will be held with cash prizes going to the winners of the longest drive, closest to the pin and many other categories. There are also prizes for best-dressed man and woman, as well as best-dressed foursome.

Cost for the event is $135 per golfer, which includes golf cart, refreshments, lunch and dinner.

This is the only fundraiser of the year for the Rotary Club of Nevada County South. Proceeds from the event will be used to help fund a wide range of local charities, schools and community projects.

Several different levels of sponsorship are available to support the tournament and gain publicity for local businesses. To register as a golfer or sponsor, or for more information, contact Vic Mathews at (530) 273-6176, Ext. 17.
