Rossi breaks track record

Nevada City’s Alexander Rossi took third during Friday’s Formula BMWUSA round 2 race at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah, but he broke a track record in the process.

Contact earlier in the race had bent one of Rossi’s wings, leaving the driver even more surprised after the race that he’d broken the record on the last lap.

“With a bent wing? Wow!” Rossi said. “I was pushing hard. I’ve got to thank the team. They did an amazing job.”

Rossi was one of five drivers that broke away during the race. He was able to work his way up to third, but found it difficult to pass on the course.

Now the driver is on his way to Montreal for the third race of the season sitting in third place, 14 points behind the leader.

“Going to Montreal, we have a decent amount of points,” Rossi said, “so I’m looking forward to a really good race.”

A little closer to home, Marysville Raceway Park is gearing up for Friday’s Civil War Sprint Series. The series will move to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for more racing action on Sunday.

Brandon Wimmer of Fairmont, Ind., the current series leader, is expected at the race.
