The 17-year old Nevada City-based pure stocks driver notched seven of his total eight top-5 ‘A’ Main finishes at Placerville Speedway’s 1/4 mile clay oval during the first half of the season, but admits he struggled mightily in the second half.

“At the beginning of the year (I was doing pretty well), but in the second half my pill draw was (just terrible). I was always starting at the back,” the home-schooled high school senior said.

Despite the late bad run of luck, Brown Jr.’s early success allowed him to take third in the speedway’s driver’s standings.

“It was cool to take third, I was just hoping I would have finished a little higher,” he said.
