Rising Starz takes team title at Oroville

The Rising Starz gymnastics team closed out its season on a high note this month, first with strong individual showings in a national competition in Chicago, followed by a dominant team performance in Oroville last weekend.

In the Windy City on Feb. 7-8, 3,200 gymnasts traveled from 22 states to compete in the national competition at Navy Pier in Chicago.

Nine of Rising Starz’s gymnasts competed in the fifth annual IGI Chicago StyleGymnastics meet.



Eight-year-old Stephanie Herron, competing in Level 6, scored 9.25 on the floor event taking the first place medal in her age group, second on bars (9.025), third on the beam (9.025), and took home the all-around silver medal missing first place by .025.

Twelve-year-old Elise Mack placed seventh with




a 9.05 on vault and Britnee Bamburg, age 10, placed

12th with an 8.45 on the floor.

In level 5, Jeannine Bailey, 11, took home the all around fourth-place medal, placing fourth on the beam and fifth on bars. Ten-year-old teammate Haley Dean took the 9th place floor medal.

Each age group had 40-plus participants.

The boys team from Rising Starz Gymnastics competed in Chico at the same time as the girls team was in Chicago, with the Class 7 team winning the first-place team trophy and Class 6 squad earning second place.

On to Oroville

At the Sweetheart Invitational on Feb. 15, Megan McGuire won the all-around first-place medal in the Level 4 all ages competition, taking first place in the vault (9.4), the bars (8.72), the beam (9.1) and the floor (8.45).

Megan Wilson was second in the all-around with a 33.5, while Allyson Prichard scored 30.67 points for fourth in the all-around.

Haley Dean was the Level 5, 10-year-old all-around winner, taking first place in the floor (8.65) and beam (9.1) with second place in the bars. Kaitlyn Montre took second place in the all-around with a 33.05 and Dominique Leatherman finished third in the all-around with a 32.35.

Jeannine Bailey won the Level 5, 11-year-olds division, finishing first in the beam (9.0) and floor exercise (8.92). Kristy McCauley was second in the all-around with a 33.5.

Stephanie Herron took first place in the all-around for the Level 6, 7-11 year olds, taking first place in the bars (8.35), beam (9.3) and floor (9.1). Britnee Bamburg took fourth place in the all-around with a 30.675.

Wine Country

In Sunday’s Wine Country Classic at Rohnert Park, Erika Van Dyke was Rising Starz’s top finisher, taking third place in all-around (33.92) of the Level 9 11-15 year old division. Van Dyke was third in the vault, bars and floor exercise.

Julia Richards took seventh in the Level 10 15-years and up division all around (32.8). Sarah Avery scored a 33.7 all-around in the Level 8 10-12 year olds and Michele Baldwin had a 32.3 all-around in the Level 8 15-years-and up.
