Seventeen-year-old Trelaina Borges, who was recently named to the 2008 U.S. Archery Team has now been accepted as a permanent full-time “resident athlete” at the U.S. Olympic Training Center located in Chula Vista.

Borges will report to the training center on Oct. 23, when she will begin living and training under the direction of Olympic team coach Kisik Lee.

“Trelaina set these goals three and one-half years ago when she made a decision to become an Olympic archer,” says National Archery Association coach Charley Washburn of Nevada City who has trained and coached Borges.

Washburn, who is the head coach of the local Nevada County Gold Archery Team, of which Borges is a member, said “Trelaina’s record of achievements along the way is nothing short of incredible. Her records of achievement will not easily be equaled or exceeded.”

Borges’ goal of becoming a member of the 2008 Olympic team, which will compete in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China was interrupted due to an injury that did not allow her to compete in the 2008 US Olympic Trials in September.

Borges will now live and train full time at the training center. She will train and compete nationally and internationally as a member of the U.S. Archery team with the goal of making the 2012 Olympic Archery Team.
