Rankings boost for area teams

In the past week, three of the six western Nevada County high school basketball teams moved higher in the Sac-Joaquin Section power rankings with playoffs just two weeks remaining.

The Bear River boys team made the biggest jump, moving from No. 12 to No. 8 with wins against Lincoln and Mira Loma. The top eight teams in each division host home playoff games in the first round.

Both Nevada Union teams moved up one spot in the rankings, with the girls team climbing to No. 4 and the boys team moving nearer to the top with a No. 3 ranking.

The Forest Lake Christian boys and Bear River girls teams held steady from last week, with the Falcons still at No. 12 and the Bruins holding steady at No. 4.

Dropping two spots, however, was the Forest Lake Christian girls team. The Falcons lost 54-51 in overtime this past Friday to Woodland Christian. Last week the Falcons were No. 4 and Woodland Christian No. 6 – the two teams simply switched spots this week.

The final power ratings before playoffs will come out Monday, with playoffs beginning the week of Feb. 20.
