What: Race to End Hunger 5K/10K

When: 8:30 a.m., Saturday (Registration opens at 7 a.m.)

Where: Forest Charter School, 470 Searls Ave, Nevada City

Cost: $25

The Food Bank of Nevada County is set to present the sixth annual Race to End Hunger Saturday in Nevada City.

The race features a 5K and 10K course that traverses downtown Nevada City, starting at Forest Charter School and leading runners/walkers to American Hill and out Old Downieville Hwy.

Runners for the 5K and 10K get started at 8:30 a.m. Registration opens at 7 a.m.

The Race to End Hunger is the eighth race in the Gold Country Grand Prix’s 11-race series.

Last year’s 5K winners were Larry DeFeyter (21 minutes, 27 seconds) in the men’s race, and Amanda Balser (25:35) in the women’s competition. Winning the 2013 Race to End Hunger men’s 10K was Bjorn Jones (37:40), and Makie Ohler won the women’s 10K with a time of 41:04.

All proceeds from the event go to benefit the Food Bank, which is a food assistance agency that provides food distribution and nutrition education to hungry individuals and families.
