The Penn Valley Giants battled neck and neck with the Grass Valley Yankees in Junior league play Monday night as both teams played well in what turned out to be a 12-12 tie.

The Yankees played great defense, but the Giants were able to get their bats going late to force a tie. The Yankees jumped out in front early with four runs in the first inning. The Giants scored one in the first and two more in the second to pull within one. After the Yankees pushed another run across in the top of the third, the Giants responded with a two-run homer off the bat of Edwin Dardon, which gave his team a 5-4 advantage.

Yet the Giants lead was short-lived as the Yankees rallied to score eight runs over the next three innings and went ahead 12-8. Trailing by the same score in their last at-bat, the Giants’ motto, “don’t ever give up,” rang true as the boys roared back to tie it. The game had extra-base hits by Timmy O’Sullivan, Weston Gaddis and Own Day. Also collecting hits were Justus Arnberg, Tyler Villnow, Hunter Vallejo, Wyatt Hook, Sean Stoll and Blake Yokom.
