Preps gain in rankings

In the final public release of the prep basketball power ratings, four of the six western Nevada County teams continued to climb, while two held steady in the top four in their respective divisions.

All three boys teams gained ground, with the Nevada Union boys basketball jumping one spot to No. 2 in Division I. But with a rating of 6.155 for the Miners, leap-frogging No. 1 Modesto, who holds a 7.450 ranking, looks unlikely.

The Bear River boys also moved up one spot to No. 7, but with a rematch against No. 1 ranked Colfax on Thursday, the team could move even higher once the playoff brackets are released Sunday. A similar possibility exists for the Forest Lake Christian boys.

On Friday, the Falcons travel to No. 1 Sacramento Waldorf for their final regular season game. This week Forest Lake Christian inched closer to hosting a first-round game by moving up two spots to the No. 10 seed.

Neither the Nevada Union nor Bear River teams changed spots, with both still resting comfortably at No. 4. But the Miners host No. 1 Kennedy for the Metro League Championship Wednesday.

The Bruins have a shot at advancement as well as they travel to No. 1 Colfax Friday. A win would create a tie between the two teams for a Pioneer Valley League Championship.

Jumping three spots from last week, was the Forest Lake Christian girls team. The Falcons are now No. 3 and travel to No. 1 Sacramento Waldorf Friday.

The final power ratings will not be released to the public, but the official playoff brackets will be revealed Sunday.
