PREP VOLLEYBALL: Forest Lake Christian soars past Sac Waldorf

The Forest Lake Christian girls volleyball team took down Sacramento Waldorf in straight sets Tuesday, beating its Central Valley California League opponent, 25-11, 25-12, 25-11.

In a game where every member of the Lady Falcons team contributed, Aileen Makovey led the way with seven kills. Alysse Moore and Maddie Switzer added four kills each, and Courtney John scored two kills in the win.

Team captain Emily O’Neill, a junior, did a nice job of running the offense with 16 assists to go with an impressive 10 aces. Makovey was also strong from the service line with seven aces. As a team, the Lady Falcons scored an eye-popping 27 aces in the three-set match.

It was the Lady Falcons second win over Sacramento Waldorf in league play. Forest Lake Christian is now 5-1 in CVCL competition with their only loss coming against Woodland Christian.

For the first time since 2009, the Lady Falcons are being led by a head coach other than Travis Smith, who had FLC in the playoffs on a regular basis. This year FLC has found success under new head coach Kyler Malarae, who played high school volleyball for Nevada Union.

Next up for the Lady Falcons is a home match at 6 p.m. today against Foresthill. Last time the Lady Falcons and Wildfires met, Oct.6, FLC came away with a straight set victory.
