PREP SOFTBALL: Lady Miners pound league foe Placer

Nevada Union’s softball team got back on track in Foothill Valley League play last Friday, knocking off Placer, 8-2, to snap a two-game skid against league foes.

The Lady Miners trailed 2-0 after two innings, but rallied with three runs in the third, another run in the fourth, two in the fifth and then two more in the sixth to pull away.

Nevada Union racked up 11 hits in the game, coming from eight different batters. Leading the way was Reese Wheeler with three hits to go with two runs scored. Danielle Schnitzius added two hits. McKenna Hayden added a double and two RBIs. Gabrielle Enriquez had a hit, two RBIs and scored two runs. Vanessa Enriquez also had a hit and drove in a pair. Leah Ellis ripped a RBI triple and scored a run.

Earning the win from the circle was freshman Liz Baucum, who tossed the first four innings, allowed two hits and two runs while striking out three. Hayden pitched the final three innings, allowing juts one hit while striking out five.
