PREP ROUNDUP: Nevada Union volleyball clinches league title

Nevada Union’s volleyball team locked up the Foothill Valley League title with a straight set win over Lincoln, 25-7, 25-8, 25-13, Monday night.

The win improved the Miners to 23-2 overall and 9-0 in FVL play. The team is two games ahead of Placer with one league bout left.

Leading the Miners against the Zebras was Jordan Mills with eight kills and six aces. Preston Nowak added six kills, and Carter Depue chipped in five kills. Junior setter Colby Quiggle ran the offense well, notching a team-high 24 assists to go with four kills and three blocks.

It’s the third straight league title for the Miners volleyball team after winning at least a share of the Sierra Foothill League championship the past two seasons.

Nevada Union closes the regular season with a road match at Rio Linda today. Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs get going next Monday.

The Lady Miners couldn’t keep up with Placer, falling on the road to their league foe Monday.

Nevada Union scored a run in five of the seven innings, but Placer was able to hang crooked numbers in three innings to grab the win.

The Lady Miners got strong play at the plate from Danielle Schnitzius, who tallied three hits, including a double. Abbey Reynoso added two hits, including a double and an RBI. Vanessa Enriquez also had a double and an RBI.

Next up for Nevada Union (6-6, 2-3 FVL) is a home game against league leader Oakmont (9-7-1, 4-1) at 4 p.m. today.
