PREP BASEBALL: Miners win series with Ponderosa

Nevada Union’s baseball team took two out of three games against Foothill Valley League foe Ponderosa this week.

The Miners (9-8, 5-5 FVL) blasted the Bruins in game one, 10-0, edged them in game two, 3-2, and fell on the road in game three, 9-3.

On Tuesday, Nick Noll led the Miners to victory in game one, tossing a complete-game shutout and striking out five.

On offense, nine different Miners tallied hits and seven drove in runs.

Leading Nevada Union at the plate was Zach Erlich with two hits, including a double, three runs scored, three stolen bases and an RBI.

In game two on Thursday, it was Bennett King pitching the Miners past Ponderosa. King tossed a complete game, allowing five hits and one earend run while striking out three.

NU’s Matthew Tintle, James Nolan and Evean Hicks all tallied RBIs in the win.

Friday’s game three was a close one early on as the Miners and Bruins were tied 3-3 after four innings, but Ponderosa scored a run in the fifth and another five in the sixth to grab the final game of the series.

Noll and Andrew Long both tallied two hits and an RBI in the loss.

Next up for the Miners is the Lions Tournament next week in Southern California.
