Forest Lake Christian School has been selected as the Section 7 recipient of the National High School Spirit of Sport Award, given by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

FLC received the award for their efforts in supporting the Paradise Adventist Academy volleyball team both financially and emotionally in the wake of the descructive and deadly Camp Fire that devastated the Paradise area.

“We’re just humbled by the recognition and just thankful and grateful that through volleyball, through sport we were really able to help our fellow athletes and competiotrs in areal tangible way,” said FLC volleyball coach Travis Smith. “We don’t do any of it for any recognition other than the smile on people’s faces and their glad hearts.”

The two teams were scheduled to face off in the CIF NorCal volleyball semifinals just two days after the fire broke out. The Forest Lake Community stepped up and welcomed Paradise Adventist by raising more than $16,000 in financial support. In addition to meals, uniforms and equipment, each member of the Paradise team also received flowers, gift bags filled with essential toiletry items and a $3,000 gift card after the game.

The NFHS divides the nation into eight geographical sections. The states in Section 7 are California, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.
