PREP ROUNDUP: Placer edges Bear River in PVL play

The Bear River girls basketball team came up just short against Pioneer Valley League for Placer Tuesday, falling to the Hillgals, 63-57.

The Lady Bruins held a slight lead at halftime, 26-24, but Placer jumped ahead in the third quarter and held off Bear River down the stretch.

Leading Bear River was senior Kaely Rath with 18 points and eight rebounds. Senior guard Savannah Wirth was also strong for Bear River with 11 points, nine assists, five rebounds and four steals. The Lady Bruins also got 10 points from Ashley Albee and seven points from Katelyn Meylor.

Placer got a big game from Baylee Vanderdoes with 22 points and six rebounds. Julia Camillucci added 14 points for the Hillgals.

The Lady Bruins (12-6, 1-1 PVL) hit the court again today at Lincoln. Placer (11-7, 1-1 PVL) hosts Center today.

Christian Brothers 63, Nevada Union 53 OT

The Miners held an eight-point fourth quarter lead, but couldn’t hold off the Falcons who rallied to force overtime and subsequently won Tuesday’s non-league match.

Nevada Union got solid play from senior post player Davis Menary with 22 points and senior guard Jahn Chensee with 15 points.

The Miners (12-7, 1-3 Sierra Foothill League) get back into league play at 7:30 p.m. Friday when they host Woodcreek.

JV: Nevada Union 50, Christian Brothers 41

The junior varsity Miners earned their 15th win of the season Tuesday, topping Christian Brothers in non-league action.

Nevada Union’s Dawson Fay led the way with 18 points. Fay was especially impressive from the free throw line, hitting 10-of-11 shots at the charity stripe. Jack Fraser added 13 points for NU, and Owen Dal Bon tallied eight points, including several key free throws to ice the game.

Next up for the Miners (15-4, 2-2 SFL) is a league match with Woodcreek today.

Victory Christian 62, Forest Lake Christian 51

The Falcons dropped their third straight Central Valley California League game Tuesday, losing at home to Victory Christian.

Forest Lake Christian trailed by only a point after one quarter, but were outscored 20-6 in the second quarter and never fully recovered.

The Falcons got solid games from Andrew Borrozo with 18 points, Alex Schneider with 14 points and Brett Soria with 10 points and four steals.

Forest Lake Christian (7-11, 1-3 CVCL) will look to get back on track at home against Foothill Friday.
