Prep roundup: NU girls water polo earns share of 1st place at Dixon tourney

The Nevada Union girls water polo team took a share of first place at its round robin tournament in Dixon this weekend.

The squad won its first two games and tied in the final match. Captain Nicole Blaney led the team to finish the tourney with 15 goals. Maddie Hedenland, Elllie DeMartini, Jessica Murphy and Faith Robichaud also contributed scores throughout the weekend and Talyor Masch had several good stops at the goalie position to keep the Lady Miners in contention. NU knocked off Redwood 8-3, Dixon 7-6 and then came back against Ukiah after trailing 4-1 to tie it 6-6. There was no overtime in this particular tournament so the teams shared the top spot.

NU (7-2-1) hosts Roseville Wednesday.

The Forest Lake Christian Falcons boys soccer team was in action Friday evening on the road where it earned a 2-0 victory over Sacramento Country Day.

Senior Hunter Seman drilled both goals for the Falcons, one on a free kick which head coach Steve Koch described as a “laser” and the other came unassisted during regular play. Goal keeper Kyle Soria had 10 saves in the shut out win.

Forest Lake Christian (2-4) hosts Cornerstone Christian Tuesday.
