Prep Roundup: Lambert, NU boys x-country take 3rd place
Simon Lambert finished third to lead Nevada Union boys cross country team to a third place finish in the Sierra Foothill League Championships at Rocklin.
Lambert clocked in at 15 minutes, 54 seconds Friday on the William Jessup University 5K course. Lambert was followed by Thomas McAtee in 11th place, Dominic Castro-Wehr (13), Sam Asher (21), Parker Scanlon (29), Joey Rodrigues (30) and Walker Davis (33).
The Lady Miners finished in fifth place at the championships and were led by Rachel Brink.
Brink finished 23rd with a 20:09 time. She was followed by Lauren Arnett in 24th place, Sara Marshall (25), Peggy McBride-Henslee (27), Jessica Boutte (30), Katelyn McGee (33) and Holly Voboril (37).
NU’s freshman/sophomore boys team finished in sixth place and was led by David French who finished 13th.
Nevada Union’s freshman sophomore girls team took fifth place and was led by Elena Bilheimer who finished 8th.
The cross country teams are set to compete at the subsection meet 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Frog Town in Angels Camp.
Girls Water Polo
Woodcreek 9, Nevada Union 3
The Lady Miners (11-13 overall, 5-7 Sierra Foothill League) season ended Thursday in a loss to Woodcreek.
NU finished fourth in the Sierra Foothill League which is one spot away from advancing to section play.
Ariana Dale, Angela Murphy and Taylor Bowen each scored a goal in the loss.
JV: Nevada Union 12, Woodcreek 5
The Miners (19-8, 10-2) junior varsity team was led by Nicole Blaney’s seven goals in Thursday’s win over Woodcreek.
Sam Anderson had three goals, followed by Quinlan Grim and Maddie Hedenland each scoring a goal.
Carly Messex had 16 saves in goal.
Boys Water Polo
JV: Nevada Union 10, Woodcreek 7
Nevada Union boys junior varsity water polo downed Woodcreek 10-7 Thursday to clinch second place in the Sierra Foothill League – the highest finish ever.
The Miners’ (19-9 overall, 9-3 league) top scorers included Gabe Saturnino, Parker Rhodes and Simon DeMartini.
