PREP ROUNDUP: Forest Lake Christian boys fall to Sac Waldorf in OT

The Forest Lake Christian boys basketball team came up just short of upsetting Central Valley California League leader Sac Waldorf Tuesday night, falling in overtime, 56-54.

After holding a 30-18 halftime lead, the Falcons struggled in the third quarter and trailed by three points heading into the fourth. The Falcons would make up the difference to force overtime, but were outscored 4-2 in the extra period.

The Falcons were led by Andrew Barrozo with 13 points, Max Wright with 12 points, Alex Schneider with 11 and Garrett Reader with 10 points to go with 13 rebounds and three blocks.



Leading Sac Waldorf was Landon Wetterstrom with 24 points, including six 3-pointers.

Next up for Forest Lake Christian (8-13, 2-6 CVCL) is its homecoming game against Delta Friday.




Girls basketball

Granite Bay 77, Nevada Union 65

The Nevada Union girls basketball team dropped its ninth straight Sierra Foothill League game of the season, falling to Granite Bay Tuesday night in the West Gym.

The Lady Miners dug themselves out of an early, 18-4, hole and took the lead in the third quarter. But, in the end they couldn’t keep pace with the Lady Grizzlies, who went 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

Leading the Lady Miners (8-16, 0-9 SFL) was senior Ella Walton and junior Esme Quintana with 11 points each. Chelsea Rodriguez and Shawna Latter each chipped in 10 points and Alexa Crabb scored seven.

Granite Bay (10-13, 2-6 SFL) was led by Daeja Black with 31 points and Adrienne Russell with 27 points.

Next up for Nevada Union is a Friday road matchup with Folsom.

JV: Nevada Union 44, Granite Bay 43

The junior varsity Lady Miners avenged an earlier 22-point loss to Granite Bay by coming from behind to beat the Lady Grizzlies Tuesday.

With 1.8 seconds left in the game and the score tied at 43, Nevada Union’s Georgia Walton hit the front end of a one-and-one to take the lead and seal the game. Walton scored nine points in the game, seven of which came in the fourth quarter.

Mixtli Cortez led the Lady Miners with 15 points, including three second half 3-pointers. Cortez also nabbed seven steals. Hannah Lewis added 11 points and doled out four assists. Lexi Blackston chipped in six points and Savana Moore came up with five steals for the Lady Miners, who had 22 steals as a team.

Nevada Union (13-11, 3-6 SFL) hits the road tonight for a matchup with Folsom.
