Prep Roundup: Bruin baseball crushes Colfax in rivalry game
Cranking out 16 hits on the afternoon, Bear River’s varsity baseball team blasted rival Colfax 13-1 in Pioneer Valley League action Friday.
The Bruins had two home runs and four doubles in their 16-for-35 day at the plate.
“Things are starting to catch on now,” said first-year Bear River coach Dahrol Ennis. “They’re catching on.”
Morgan Juric led the hit parade by going 4-for-5 in the win. Cole White was 2-for-5 with a home run and 2 RBIs, while Brandon Fry belted a solo homer and totaled 3 RBIs. Sean Smith was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Jordan Beskeen had a pair of doubles and 3 RBIs, while Michael Lucas went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Andy Brooding recorded his first career double at the varsity level in a 2-for-2 performance with 3 RBIs.
Coleman Huntley picked up the win on the mound, striking out four and allowing no runs through three innings. Lucas pitched the final three innings, recording two strikeouts.
Bear River (6-3 overall, 2-0 PVL) is back in action at 10 a.m. today, traveling to Yuba City for a game against Vista del Lago in the opening round of the Woodcreek Tournament.
JV: Bear River 14, Colfax 3
Josh Toft went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in four runs, as the Bruin junior varsity also routed rival Colfax.
Trevor McGee went 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs. James Harris had a 2-for-3 game with a double and 2 RBIs, while Sammy Aguilar and Michael Raigoza each doubled for the Bruins.
Andrew Reese picked up the win on the mound, striking out three and allowing two runs over four innings. Troy Runte relieved him by striking out two and allowing one run in one inning.
In the first round of the Placer Junior Varsity Tournament, Bear River’s JV (7-2) faces Del Oro at 3:30 p.m. Monday at James Field in Auburn.
JV: Nevada Union 14, Roseville 4
NU’s junior varsity team scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to win the rubber game of the week’s best-of-three series against Sierra Foothill League foe Roseville.
Conner Holland got the win, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in five innings.
Conner Fuller went 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run and 3 RBIs, while Tanner Thiesing was also 3-for-3 with three doubles and 2 RBIs. Quinn Munds went 2-for-2 and drove in four runs.
Tyler Houlihan went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Miles Ward was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Nevada Union’s JV team travels to James Field in Auburn for a 6 p.m. game in the Placer Junior Varsity Tournament.
Frosh: Nevada Union 15, Roseville 7
NU’s freshman baseball team swept Roseville in three straight games this week, capped by Friday night’s win.
Travis Hansen had a 2-for-4 game at the plate, while Jared Cook added a single. Nevada Union totaled six hits, but drew 10 walks on the day.
Zach White threw the first three innings on the mound, before Cameron Townsend came on for the next three innings and Rob Wood closed things out in the seventh.
NU (6-0 overall, 3-0 SFL) competes in the Del Campo Tournament Monday.
