Prep roundup: Bear River stomps Foothill, eyes Placer

The Bear River girls volleyball team took care of business Tuesday, knocking off Pioneer Valley League foe Foothill in straight sets, 25-12, 25-4, 25-8.

In the win, the Lady Bruins got a strong game from Lauren Brennen with eight assists and two aces.

Senior captain Kirtsen Pereria led the team with 13 kills and four aces.

On the season, Pereira leads the team with 298 kills, a 48.7 kill percentage, 58 aces and 50 blocked shots.

Bear River senior transfer Hannah Christianson impressed from the service line with eight aces to go with four kills.

Coming into Tuesday’s matchup with Foothill, Bear River, Placer and Colfax all had one league loss.

Placer lost to Bear River, Bear River lost to Colfax, and Colfax lost to Placer, making for a wicked web of possibilities as the season concludes.

Placer beat Colfax for a second time Tuesday, a five-set victory, making Thursday’s contest between the Hillgals and Lady Bruins all the more important.

Bear River (17-13, 7-1 PVL) travels to Placer (18-8, 7-1 PVL) Thursday and closes the regular season next Tuesday at home against Colfax (13-13, 6-2 PVL).

With just two games left before the playoffs, Bear River, the reigning PVL and Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV champion, controls its own destiny and can claim the league title if it wins out.
