Prep roundup: Bear River softball rallies past Del Oro

The Bear River softball team showed some resilience Friday, rallying past Del Oro, 3-2, with three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

“Great game for us today,” said head coach Duane Zauner. “We showed a little character.”

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the seventh inning, Bear River’s Kaitlyn Maddux ripped a one-out double. Brieana Maddux then reached on a walk, and Taylor Bonnifield loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. The Lady Bruins then sent up Indyia Vierra who brought everyone home with a three-RBI triple.

After falling behind 2-0 in the second inning, the Lady Bruins (7-2) shut down the Lady Golden Eagles’ offense the rest of the way.

Junior pitcher Nerissa Long pitched a complete game for Bear River, going seven innings, allowing two earned runs, three hits, two walks and striking out eight.

With the win, Bear River has now notched six straight victories. They will now gear up for another non-league match with Oakmont Monday.
