Prep roundup: Bear River soccer continues playoff hunt, beats Colfax 2-1

The Bear River boys soccer team continued its climb toward the postseason Thursday, beating Pioneer Valley League rival Colfax, 2-1.

Jake Silva scored both of Bear River’s goals in the first half and the Bruins’ defense held on for the win. Goaltender Joey Cressa impressed with 14 saves in the game.

The Bruins are now 4-2 in PVL play and currently sit in third place, behind Placer and Lincoln. The top three teams in the PVL get bids to the postseason.

Up next for the Bruins is a home game against Center, Tuesday.

Girls volleyball

Colfax 3, Bear River 0

After opening the PVL with four straight wins, the Lady Bruins have dropped back-to-back matches.

The Lady Bruins lost to Placer Tuesday, and fell to Colfax in straight sets, 26-24, 25-23, 25-21, Thursday.

The losses drop Bear River to 12-8 overall and 4-2 in the PVL. The Lady Bruins will look to find their winning way this weekend at the Stockton Classic.

Oak Ridge 3, Nevada Union 0

The Lady Miners dropped a Sierra Foothill League game against Oak Ridge Thursday, losing in straight sets, 25-21, 25-15, 25-20.

Leading NU was Amanda Roberts with 11 kills and two aces. Nadia Torkman added five kills, three blocks and five digs.

The loss drops NU to 12-14 overall and 2-6 in SFL play. The Lady Miners next take on Rocklin Oct. 23.
