Prep roundup: Bear River, Nevada Union girls basketball notch quality wins

The Bear River girls basketball team earned a shot at the Oakmont Tournament championship Friday, beating a tough Del Oro squad, 56-44.

The Lady Bruins used a big third-quarter surge to separate from the Golden Eagles after going to halftime tied at 25.

Senior post player Kaitlyn Reina led Bear River with 18 points and eight rebounds. Teryn Rath grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds and added eight points. Jen Alberts hit three 3-pointers and finished with 15 in the game, and point guard Lauren Runte played well with seven points, six assists and four steals. Senior Maddie Dunn added eight points and four assists to go with stellar defense on the night.

The Lady Bruins will battle Whitney at 6 p.m. today in the tourney final.

Nevada Union 68, West Campus 54

The Lady Miners basketball team is in the Oak Ridge tourney title game after topping West Campus by 14 Friday.

Nevada Union junior Sammy DeHart was lights out from downtown, hitting 7-of-8 3-pointers and finishing with 24 points to go with nine rebounds. Senior Sydney Porter added 20 points and played lock-down defense on West Campus’ top offensive threat. Emma Peterson added 10 and Erin Selleck ran the point well with seven points and six assists.

The Lady Miners will play tourney host Oak Ridge for the championship at 2 p.m. today.

JV: Nevada Union 42, Bella Vista 25

The Lady Miners were not very gracious to their tourney hosts, beating Bella Vista by 17 Friday.

Nevada Union got a strong game from Ella Walton with 18 points, five rebounds and five steals. Aycee Willis added 12 points and Emma Patterson grabbed eight rebounds to go with four points

The win advances NU to the Bella Vista Tournament title game at 1 p.m. today.

Boys basketball

Bear River 60, Central Valley 43

The Bruins netted a spot in the Lehigh Classic championship game Friday, beating host Central Valley by 17 in the second round.

Senior Charlie Espinosa led the way with 22 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Braden Duncan added 15 and hit three 3-pointers in the win.

The Bruins will take on Liberty Christian at 6 p.m. today in the tourney final.

Forest Lake Christian 93, Valley Christian 56

A day after suffering their first loss, the Falcons were back to their winning and high-scoring ways, topping Valley Christian by 37 in the second round of the Les Schwab Basketball Classic.

Senior Luke Jordan led the team in points with 21, and Chase Augustino tallied 17 to go with eight assists. J.J. Griffiths added 13 off the bench, and Kyle Soria netted 12 in the win.

The Falcons face Wheatland today.
