PREP ROUNDUP: Bear River golf back on track with win over Colfax

Bear River’s girls golf team got back on track Thursday, beating Pioneer Valley league combatant Colfax by 20 strokes, 240-260, at The Ridge in Auburn.

The reigning PVL champion Lady Bruins dropped their first league match since 2014 on Tuesday, falling to Placer by a single stroke, but they responded with a solid victory over Colfax to move to 3-1 this season.

Leading Bear River was the day’s medalist Kalei Owen, a sophomore, with a 44 on the par-36 course. Sophomore Hannah Prosser followed with a 46, junior Bella Betula had a 48, Madison Templeton scored a 50, and Serenity Edwards as well as Dominique Peter both finished with a 52 to round out the Bear River scoring.

Next up for the Lady Bruins is the first PVL Tournament of the season Monday at Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course in Sacramento.


Forest Lake Christian 3, Sacramento Waldorf 0

The Lady Falcons opened the Central Valley California League season with a convincing three set, 25-14, 25-22, 25-10, victory over Sacramento Waldorf Thursday.

Leading FLC was freshmen middle hitter Faith Menary with 11 kills. Senior outside hitter Alysse Moore added six kills and senior Aileen Makovey chipped in with five kills.

Next up for the Lady Falcons is the CIVT Tourney this weekend followed by a pair of road matches against CVCL foes Valley Christian and Woodland Christian next week.

Pleasant Valley 3, Nevada Union 1

The Lady Miners took a step away from Sierra Foothill League play Thursday, heading to Chico to take on the Pleasant Valley Vikings.

Despite a strong start, Nevada Union couldn’t maintain the momentum and fell in four sets, 21-25, 25-12, 25-14, 25-15.

Nevada Union gets back into SFL play, where they are 1-2 this season, against Rocklin Monday at home.

Rio Americano 3, Bear River 1

The Lady Bruins continue to battle through non-league play, most recently dropping a match with Rio Americano, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16.

The loss drops Bear River to 9-15 this season. The Lady Bruins are at the Battle in the Buttes tourney this week and open PVL play Tuesday against Placer at home.
